Vikings net 3-0 volleyball win over Andrews University
Glen Oaks earns second sweep vs. Cardinals
For the second time this season the Glen Oaks Community College women's volleyball team defeated Andrews University — this time around it was a 25-16, 25-14, 25-17 sweep at home Tuesday night.
With the first set tied at 13-13, a powerful kill by Karsyn Stebbins blew open the floodgates for the Vikings, who would go on an 11-3 run to close it out. Alicyn Arevalo served up four aces down the stretch to secure the first-game victory.
Glen Oaks jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second set, which included an ace by Kylie Quist, a kill and an ace by Kaytlin Smith, a well-placed tip by Keegan Russell and a kill by Arevalo. The Vikings continued to cruise the rest of the way.
In the third game, Arrevalo had another pair of aces during a run that saw the Vikings extend a 9-7 lead to a 13-7 advantage. Glen Oaks would go on to close out the sweep comfortably.
Kaytlin Smith led the team with eight kills, followed by Stebbins (six), Quist (six), Gina Smith (four), Russell (three) and Arevalo (three).
Arevalo finished the night with seven service aces, Quist dialed up four and Russell had three. Stebbins and Kaytlin Smith each produced two aces, and Tamerah Clay had one. Elayna Zuidema registered 15 assists and Weller finished with seven.
Defensively, Isabella Coy made seven digs, followed by Quist (five), Stebbins (four) and Arevelo (three). Weller and Clay both nothed two digs, and Zuidema, Russell, Gina Smith and Kaytlin Smith all added one.
Glen Oaks is back at home Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. against Lake Michigan College.
