Going up against top-notch talent over the weekend, the Glen Oaks Community College volleyball team went 1-3 Saturday and Sunday at the Grand Rapids Raider Challenge. 

Saturday
No. 17 Grand Rapids defeated Glen Oaks 25-17, 25-20, 25-20

Gina Smith led the Vikings with nine kills, while Karsyn Stebbins and Keegan Russell each finished with six. Kaytlin Smith added five kills. Kulayjah Weller had 12 assists, and Elayna Zuidema registered six. Both Russell and Isabella Coy served up two aces. Coy racked up a team-high 10 digs, and Russell notched six. 

Glen Oaks defeated Oakland 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 26-24

The Vikings rebounded  after Oakland tied the match and remained poised throughout the remainder of the two tight sets. Leading the Viking attack was Stebbins, who finished with 13 kills. Kaytlin Smith added 12 kills and Russell posted seven. Weller put together 16 assists, followed by Zuidema, who had 10. Russell was responsible for three aces and 15 digs, and Coy led the squad with 15 digs. Both Alicyn Arevalo and Kaytlin Smith made solo blocks, and Arevalo added two assists. 

Sunday
No. 16 McHenry County defeated Glen Oaks 25-10, 25-7, 25-14

For the second straight day, Glen Oaks faced a NJCAA Division II ranked opponent in McHenry. Gina Smith registered five kills, Kaytlin Smith was next in line with three, Zuidema paced the team with seven assists and Coy had a team-best eight digs. Russell chipped in four digs and Weller had four assists. Stebbins and Arevalo both finished with two kills. 

Mott defeated Glen Oaks 25-17, 25-17, 25-9

Stebbins recorded seven of the team's 19 kills and she added six digs. Weller led the Vikings with 11 digs to go with six assists and a kill, Zuidema came away with six assists and a dig, Russell added two kills, three assists and six digs, and Gina Smith had three kills, an ace and three digs. Kylie Quist produced an assist and a dig, Arevalo made two kills and an assist, and Kaytlin Smith finished with four kills and a dig. Coy recorded six digs and an assist.
