Owens fends off Glen Oaks
Vikings lose close game on the road in women's hoops.
PERRYSBURG, OH — The host Owens Community College women's basketball team held Glen Oaks to seven points in the fourth quarter to pull off a 59-53 victory Wednesday night.
The Vikings put together a strong second quarter, outscoring Owens 21-5 to end up with a 35-28 lead at halftime. The Express offense was steady the rest of the way, which included four 3-pointers over the final 20 minutes, and Glen Oaks ran out of steam in the final 10 minutes. Owens outscored the Vikings 14-7 in the fourth quarter to complete the rally.
Kennedy Lockett led GOCC with 11 points, followed by Kaytlin Smith with 10. Jordyn Partee added eight points, Amanda Barber, Kulayjah Weller and Kylie Quist each posted six, and Tracy Ackley, Chelsi Zyla and Natalie Whitaker each finished with two. Glen Oaks slipped to 4-9 overall this season.
The Vikings are back in action Saturday, January 11 with a home game at 1 p.m. against Lansing to open Michigan Community College Athletic Association play.
