Oakland defeats Glen Oaks in women's basketball
Vikings drop first contest at St. Clair Classic.
Oakland Community College's offensive firepower was too much for Glen Oaks Friday as the Vikings suffered an 86-50 loss in women's basketball at the St. Clair Classic.
Both Amanda Barber and Kennedy Lockett scored a team-high 14 points for GOCC. Lockett was locked in early and scored nine points in the first quarter, while Barber buried a pair of 3-pointers in the opening frame. However, for a team that likes to hoist shots from behind the arc, Glen Oaks met a team that likes long-range shots even more. Oakland only shot a little over 24 percent from 3-point land but connected on 14 of them on 57 attempts. Glen Oaks was just 6-for-16.
Jordyn Partee scored nine points for the Vikings, Kambrya Zilm had five and Kaytlin Smith notched four. Both Jayla Parker-Vincent and Karsyn Stebbins chipped in two points for GOCC, which slipped to 3-6 overall this season. Smith led all players with 14 total rebounds to go with three assists and a steal.
Oakland improved to 6-3 after Liz Liedel did most of the heavy lifting with 26 points.
