Emilee Hendron hired to lead women's basketball program
A Constantine native, Hendron excited to get started at Glen Oaks.
Glen Oaks Community College is pleased to announce the hiring of Emilee Hendron (Komins), who will guide the women's basketball team as interim head coach this season. She steps in after the recent resignation of former head coach Robbie Hattan, who accepted the varsity boys head coaching position at Battle Creek Pennfield High School.
Hendron is well suited for her new role. She played volleyball, basketball and ran track and field at Constantine High School (2004-08) and was a key player for the Kalamazoo Valley Community College women's basketball team as a shooting guard from 2008-10.
After college, Hendron coached the Constantine junior varsity girls team before working as a private basketball instructor. Most recently, she spent three years overseeing the junior varsity girls program at Colon High School.
"We are excited and fortunate to bring in Emilee Hendron at this time," Glen Oaks Athletic Director Joel Mishler said. "Emilee brings in unique experiences as a junior college player, along with coaching at the high school levels.
"She knows what an excellent program looks like at our level and brings about a presence of leadership and knowledge that our athletes will benefit from."
Hendron was an All-State selection in basketball as a senior point guard for the Falcons, who won a district championship that season for the first time in a decade. Hendron was also named District Tournament Most Valuable Player.
At KVCC, Hendron was a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All-Academic Team honoree. Her freshman year with the Cougars resulted in a trip to the national tournament and a 25-7 overall record.
"I loved my time at KVCC," Hendron said. "I think being a player at the collegiate level gives me a unique experience both in what's needed out of each player but also everything that happens outside the gym.
"The junior college level gave me a great chance to grow — not only as a player, but as a person as well. As far as this season, we're in a unique position given that none of these women came here expecting to play for me. So, we have little time to both develop our personal relationships and our team dynamic. I hope to give the sophomores a final year they can be proud of and I hope the freshmen are ready to be part of the foundation of a great program going forward."
Hendron will be assisted by former Constantine and Glen Oaks standout Hannah Outlaw, along with Hendron's husband, Sean. Outlaw's contributions in her first season on staff have already been invaluable as she has overseen the program during the head coaching search. Sean Hendron, who has played baseball and basketball at Boone Grove High School in Indiana, and also coached a year of JV baseball there, holds a degree in Sports Management, will help with operations.
"My husband didn't hesitate when I applied for this position and potentially would be flipping our world upside down," Hendron said. "He is just as excited as I am. I am excited to grow this program with both of them."
Emilee and Sean Hendron currently reside in White Pigeon, MI.
