Vikings throttle Lake Michigan
Glen Oaks softball team runs away with two wins on the road.
The Glen Oaks Community College softball team traveled to Lake Michigan College Saturday and came away with a pair of convincing victories.
Game 1
Glen Oaks 10, Lake Michigan 7
Timmery Hunter collected four hits in four at bats, as Glen Oaks defeated Lake Michigan College 10-7 in the opener. Hunter hit a solo home run in the second inning, singled in the third inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
Glen Oaks was the first to get on the board in the first when Aimee Reinhardt doubled, scoring one run. Hunter hit a solo home run in the top of the second for the Glen Oaks Community College. The Vikings added one run in the third after Bailey Trail singled down the left field line.
Glen Oaks flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring seven runs on seven hits to take the lead, 10-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Reinhardt that drove in two.
Audrie Dugan opened the game for GOCC in the circle. The pitcher allowed four hits and four runs over four and one-third innings, striking out five and walking seven. Grace Blanchard appeared in relief for the Vikings.
Glen Oaks had 16 hits in the game. Reinhardt and Trail each drove in three runs, while Addison Harris and Bella Monsma each collected multiple hits. The Vikings turned one double play in the game and were sure-handed defensively with no errors.
Game 2
Glen Oaks 18, Lake Michigan 4
Grace Blanchard hit two home runs and drove in five as the Vikings ran away with a Game 2 win. Blanchard homered in the second and fourth innings.
Lake Michigan College got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Ashley McKenney singled, scoring one run, and Lexie McCarty homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Glen Oaks exploded for eight runs on seven hits to take an 8-3 lead in the second innng and didn't look back. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Blanchard that drove in three.
The Vikings added two runs in the third after Addison Harris doubled to center field.
Four more GOCC runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 14-4. Blanchard homered to center field, scoring two runs, Timmery Hunter hit a solo home run to left field, and Harris drew a walk, scoring one run.
The Vikings added four more runs in the top of the fifth inning on three hits. Brianna Wiley doubled, scoring one run, and Sage Pruett homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Aimee Reinhardt started in the circle for GOCC and she gave up five hits and four runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three. Audrie Dugan threw two and one-third innings of scoreless ball for Glen Oaks Community College in relief. The reliever gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking one.
In total, the Vikings collected 19 hits in the game. Leadoff hitter Pruett led the squad with five hits in five at bats. Hunter, Wiley, Bella Monsma, and Bailey Trail each collected multiple hits for Glen Oaks.
Once again, Glen Oaks didn't commit a single error in the field.
