Softball squad takes nightcap at Lansing
Vikings take control in middle innings.
A strong performance at the plate in the middle innings and another commanding effort by pitcher Aimee Reinhardt produced a 9-3 Glen Oaks victory over host Lansing Tuesday in the nightcap of a MCCAA doubleheader.
After the Stars earned a 14-6 win in the opener, they scored a run in each of the first two innings to establish an early cushion. The Vikings got on the board with a run in the third and took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Bailey Trail hit a sacrifice fly, Bella Monsma singled to center field and Sage Pruett singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.
Addison Harris and Reinhardt singled to get things started in the fifth and Audrie Dugan walked to load the based with no outs. Grace Blanchard was patient at the plate and drew a walk to score a run and would eventually score on a passed ball. Trail hit a hard grounder that pushed Timmery Hunter home for an 8-3 lead.
Reinhardt started the game for Glen Oaks and surrendered six hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking four. Perez stepped in the circle first for Lansing Community College. The starter surrendered 11 hits and nine runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking three.
The Vikings amassed 11 hits in the game. Reinhardt went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead GOCC in hits. Grace Blanchard and Trail each drove in two runs for the Vikings. Pruett collected two hits, Audrie Dugan stole two bases and the Glen Oaks didn't commit a single error in the field. Dugan had the most chances in the field with six.
