Vikings earn two softball wins over KVCC
GOCC picks up pair of league road wins.
A late explosion gave Glen Oaks softball a 10-2 road win in five innings Sunday in their first contest against Kalamazoo Valley. The contest was tied entering the fifth inning as the Vikings had scored a solo run in the first inning and the Cougars matched in the fourth. In the top of the fifth, GOCC unloaded with nine runs. KVCC got one back in the bottom half.
The fifth inning rally saw two home runs; a three-run shot to left by Dakota Sigler and a two RBI dinger to center by Kacie Scott. Glen Oaks' first inning run came on a Sage Pruett solo homer. Pruett had two hits, two runs, and two RBI. Scott had two runs and two hits. Alea Fisher, Sierra Smith, and Aubrey Mealor each had a double, run, and RBI.
Ava Mejia allowed only two hits over her five inning victory in the circle with four strikeouts, two unearned runs, and one walk in five innings. With this win, Mejia has a 1.58 ERA so far through 31 innings this season.
In Game 2, Glen Oaks completed the road sweep of Kalamazoo Valley Sunday with a 4-1 win. The victories give the Vikings a four-game winning streak and a 4-2 record in MCCAA Western Conference play, as well as a 9-5 overall record.
The game was scoreless until Glen Oaks saw a Brady Lesher solo home run in the top of the fourth inning. In the fifth, Ava Mejia smacked a three-run homer to bring in Aimee Reinhardt and Sierra Carpenter. The lone Cougar run came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Reinhardt had two of the five Viking hits.
Dakota Sigler struck out 10 over a complete game victory. In seven innings, Sigler allowed three hits, one earned run, and six walks.
Conference play continues on Friday with a road doubleheader against Lansing.
