Keil goes off as Vikings take care of LMC
Five Glen Oaks players reach double figures in league win.
Nate Keil buried four 3-pointers in the second half on his way to a co-game high 18 points as Glen Oaks Community College dispatched visiting Lake Michigan Thursday night, 88-79.
And he wasn't the only GOCC rookie with a hot hand. Mike Phillips scored 15 of his 16 points in the first half, which included three made field goals from behind the arc. Classmate Akin Smith finished with 15 points with three triples and a total of 13 points in the second half, Darrius Roach posted 14 and Amauri Moore added 10.
The Vikings led by as many as 22 points late in the second half before Lake Michigan surged back to make it an eight-point game with 1:20 to play. A fast-break dunk by Moore in the closing seconds pushed the GOCC lead back to double figures.
Taurus Baugh scored eight points in the final 20 minutes, Aaron Humphrey Jr. finished with five and Will Jamison had two.
Glen Oaks improved to 13-11 overall and 6-4 in the MCCAA Western Conference (third place). The Red Hawks dropped to 7-13 overall and 1-9 in league play.
