Glen Oaks dominates Lake Michigan
Vikings cruise to league win at home.
With the game never in doubt Saturday at home, the Glen Oaks men's basketball team cruised to an 86-71 victory in Michigan Community College Athletic Association play.
The Vikings jumped all over the Red Hawks and built a 44-24 halftime lead as Daivion Boleware poured in 16 of his game-high 22 points in the first 20 minutes. Boleware and Darrius roach both knocked down 3-pointers and Lavonta Ash scored on a putback late to inflate the cushion.
Jordan Turner turned things up in the second half and finished with 15 points for Glen Oaks. Ash ended the day with 11, Roach and Shane Handlon each registered 10, Tyler Swanwick hit a pair of 3-pointers and recorded eight points, Derek Anderson added six and Tylan Harris finished with four.
The Vikings started the second half swinging, with a drive and a 3-pointer by Handlon and a triple from Swanwick. Anderson added a four-point play aftering being fouled on a made 3-pointer to make it a 56-28 lead and GOCC was on cruise control the rest of the way.
Glen Oaks outscored the Red Hawks 30-12 from behind the arc and shot 44.3 percent from the field for the game.
Boleware grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and Ash pulled down eight. Swanwick and Roach paced the Vikings with three assists apiece and Harris had four steals.
The Vikings are now 10-7 overall and 1-1 in MCCAA play. Lake Michigan slipped to 5-8 overall and 0-1 in the league.
