GOCC comes up just short in Milwaukee
Defending NJCAA Division II champions fend off Vikings
Battling against the defending National Junior College Athletic Association Division II champs, a scrappy effort by Glen Oaks Friday on the road wasn't enough in a 95-86 loss to Milwaukee Area Technical College.
The Stormers pulled ahead 20-13 with 12 minutes to go in the first before a Tylan Harris 3-pointer and a Myles Johnson jumper cut the defecit to two. A triple and a jumper by Darrius Roach gave the Vikings a 23-22 advantage at the 8:39 mark. For the next four minutes the two teams exchange the lead until Daivion Boleware, who had a monster night with a game-high 32 points, drained a 3-pointer for a 32-29 GOCC lead. The Stormers would eventually take a 42-39 advantage into the break.
Milwaukee came out hot to open the second half and went on a 12-0 run for a 54-39 lead.
Jaiquan Edwards stopped the bleeding for GOCC with a jumper, followed by buckets by Johnson and Roach to cut the defecit back to single digits. The Stormers dominated the middle portion of the second half and increased their cushion to as many as 21 points with just under 11 minutes remaining.
A Johnson triple made it a 10-point contest with 2:02 to play and Boleware hit a jumper with 72 seconds left to cut it to 90-82. Boleware would hit two free throws and another jumper down the stretch but MATC connected from the stripe on the other end to secure the win.
Edwards finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, and Johnson had 14 points. Harris notched 11 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Roach registered nine points and five rebounds.
Glen Oaks (8-4) takes on St. Clair at home Monday at 3 p.m.
