Glen Oaks men beat Olivet JV
Vikings take care of business at home
The Glen Oaks Community College men's basketball team returned from Thanksgiving break energized and defeated Olivet College's JV squad 83-60 Tuesday night at home.
Shooting over 51 percent from the field, the Vikings began to pull away midway through the first half following a 17-17 tie at the 10:51 mark.
Daivion Boleware led GOCC with a 26-point performance and JaiQuan Edwards ended the night with 21 points. Darrius Roach reached double figures with 10 points.
A pair of drives by Edwards and a Roach 3-pointer gave the Vikings some breathing room midway through the first half. Edwards slashed to the bucket again, making the shot and ensuing free throw after a foul, and Boleware added a triple to give Glen Oaks a 35-20 advantage. The Vikings built the lead up to 47-28 by halftime.
Lavonta Ash finished with nine points, Shane Handlon and Jaylen Coon both registered seven points, and Tyler Swanwick chipped in three.
Boleware was 5-for-9 from behind the arc and he grabbed seven rebounds. Edwards also recorded seven boards, while Handlon added six rebounds (five defensive). Coon secured five rebounds for the Vikings.
Handlon also led the team with three steals and Roach had a team-high four assists.
The win bumped GOCC to 6-1 overall this season as the team gets ready to hit the road for two contests over the weekend — Friday at Kirtland and Saturday at North Central Community College.
