Viking baseball team shows promise in Tennessee
GOCC had some solid performances despite four losses to Vol State over the weekend.

GALLATIN, Tenn. — The Glen Oaks Community College baseball team traveled to Tennessee over the weekend for a four-game series at Volunteer State that resulted in some valuable non-conference experience early in the 2025 spring season. The Vikings went 0-4 on the trip but there were plenty of standout performances.
Friday, Feb. 7
Game 1
Vol State 4, Glen Oaks 1
Vol State had a solo home run in the first inning and tacked on another run in the third for an early lead. Jackson Stewart took the loss for GOCC, allowing four runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. Andrew Onuegbu, Steven Drewyor, Daniel Vizthum and Cohen Yoder all had a hit for the Vikings. Onuegbu also had two stolen bases.
Game 2
Vol State 15, Glen Oaks 4
Glen Oaks got on the board first in the top of the second inning with a pair of singles, with Peyton Simmons driving in Logan O'Malley. Simmons would later score on a fielding error after a singl by Caleb Wesseldyk. Vol State cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second and then scored 12 unanswered runs over the next two frames. Collin Yoder took the loss for GOCC with four earned runs allowed on four hits with two strikeouts over three innings of work. Cohen Yoder ended the game with two hits and Caleb Mallory had a pair of RBIs.
Saturday, Feb. 8
Game 1
Vol State 9, Glen Oaks 7
The Vikings jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first inning and battled back late, but came up just short despite outhitting Vol State 12-10. Caleb Mallory blasted one over the fence in the first inning for a two-run, two-out homer. Vol State scored three runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the third for a 5-1 lead. Glen Oaks tacked on two more in the fourth but went into the seventh inning trailing 9-4. With two outs in the seventh, Glen Oaks had the bases loaded and scored oafter Corbin White drew a walk. Tyler Shishler delivered a double to score two more runs but that was as close as the Vikings would get. Andrew Onuegbu took the loss for Glen Oaks after working four innings. He surrendered six runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
Game 2
Vol State 3, Glen Oaks 1
Volunteer State scored two runs in the second inning and added one in the sixth in what was a shutout until the final inning. Cohen Yoder scored on a walk with two outs in the seventh for Glen Oaks. Jayden Sloniker pitched a solid game for the Vikings as the starter went four innings and only gave up two runs on two hits with six strikeouts. Peyton Simmons had a hit and a RBI and Steven Drewyor had two hits. The Vikings drew eight walks, including two by Simmons and a pair by Callum Wesseldyk.
