Kellogg baseball wins both at home vs. Vikings
Glen Oaks falls in MCCAA action on the road.
Glen Oaks baseball was defeated 5-1 and 12-0 Saturday in the road half of their weekend series against first place Kellogg. The Vikings dropped to 4-13 in the MCCAA Western Conference and 7-29 overall, while the Bruins improved to 15-2 in league play and 31-7 overall.
In Game 1, the Vikings opened ahead by scoring their lone run and getting their two hits for the day in the top of the first inning. Brayden Clark got on with a two out single, then his courtesy runner McCullan Greene was brought in on an Andrew Thorpe RBI single.
The lead was short lived, as Kellogg answered with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The score remained 3-1 until the Bruins added two in the sixth inning. Andrew Onuegbu pitched 5.2 innings for Glen Oaks with seven strikeouts, five hits allowed, five runs, three earned runs, and five walks.
Game 2 was decided after five innings. Kellogg scored three runs in the second inning, one in the third, and eight in the fourth. Steven Drewyor had the lone Viking hit and was their only baserunner in the game.
Next for Glen Oaks baseball is a four-game series against Kalamazoo Valley. The Vikings host the Cougars Thursday, then make the trip north Saturday.
