Stars align in Game 2 of baseball sweep
Lansing continues high scoring in doubleheader at Glen Oaks.
Glen Oaks baseball fell Sunday to Lansing in two high-scoring home games. The 21-16 and 19-8 finals give the Stars the weekend sweep over the Vikings.
In Game 1, GOCC had 17 hits with two runs in the first inning, three in the second, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, four in the sixth, and four in the seventh. The Stars scored twice in the second inning, thrice in the fourth, twice in the fifth, then unloaded with seven in the sixth and another seven in the seventh. LCC had 14 hits on the day. Both teams committed six errors.
Brayden Clark had four hits for Glen Oaks, three of which were doubles. He added three RBI and two runs. Jayden Hamilton, Erick Marin, and Cameron Humeston each had a double. Marin and Brody Wardenburg had three hits apiece while Hamilton and Steven Drewyor both had two hits.
Marin scored four of the 16 Viking runs. Peyton Simmons scored thrice, Andrew Thorpe and Hamilton both scored twice.
The scoring didn't slow down to start Game 2 with Lansing getting 11 runs in the top of the first inning. Glen Oaks countered with their own six runs in the bottom half. The Vikings added two more in the fourth. The Stars had three more in the second, one in the third, and four in the sixth. Lansing outhit Glen Oaks 14-3.
Thorpe had a two RBI double and Daniel Vizthum had a two RBI single. Simmons had the other Viking hit. GOCC drew six walks and got on six times via hit batsmen.
Glen Oaks falls to 4-9 in MCCAA Western Conference play and 7-25 with the results. Lansing is tied for the league lead with Kellogg at 11-2 and sits at 23-10 overall. The Bruins are the next foe for the Vikings, who host Kellogg Thursday and visit them Saturday.
