Glen Oaks claims Game 2 in baseball sweep vs. Ancilla
Vikings limit Chargers to two runs combined.
Glen Oaks baseball got revenge Saturday at Marian University's Ancilla College, picking up 9-0 and 10-2 road victories. Great pitching led the way for GOCC, allowing only five hits between the two contests. The weekend series ends up a split, putting the Vikings at 4-5 in the MCCAA Western Conference and 7-21 overall.
Game one saw an absolute gem pitched by Andrew Onuegbu with a one-hit shutout. He struck out 11 and walked one over the complete game victory.
Offensively, Glen Oaks had 10 hits in the first game with two hit efforts by Peyton Simmons, Erick Marin, and Jayden Hamilton. Marin, Brody Wardenburg, and Cameron Humeston each doubled. Simmons and Marin scored twice.
The Vikings had solo runs in the first, third, and sixth innings. Glen Oaks added three in the fifth and another three in the seventh.
The game two victory also had a strong pitching effort with Jackson Stewart tossing a complete game. He struck out five over seven innings while allowing four hits, two unearned runs, and one walk.
The Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, but the Chargers tied it by scoring both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game remained tied until Glen Oaks unloaded with six runs in the sixth. The Vikings added two more in the seventh.
GOCC had seven hits on the day with two from Cameron Humeston. He and Gionni Fonseca both scored twice, as did Jayden Hamilton. Hamilton and Steven Drewyor both had three RBI. Andrew Thorpe smacked a solo home run.
Glen Oaks is 7-21 overall on the season and returns home for a doubleheader Thursday against Lansing Community College.
