Ancilla baseball takes two at Glen Oaks
Chargers rally in opener, lead from the jump in Game 2.
Glen Oaks baseball dropped both games of a home doubleheader Friday against Marian University's Ancilla College. Game 1 saw a 3-2 final and Game 2 had a 13-8 result.
In the first game, the Vikings opened with the lead on a solo score in the bottom of the first inning. The Chargers got on the board with two in the top of the fifth, but Glen Oaks added one in the bottom half to tie the game at 2-2. Ancilla scored in the seventh and held on in the bottom half to get the win.
Sam Dunlavy had a strong outing in defeat on the mound for the Vikings, striking out eight over 6.2 innings. He allowed six hits, three runs, two earned runs, and three walks. Hunter Tinervia recorded the final out.
Brayden Clark, Erick Marin, and Brody Wardenburg had the three Viking hits. McCullan Greene and Steven Drewyor scored the two runs.
Game two saw Ancilla ahead 4-1 after the first inning and 8-2 after the fifth. Glen Oaks attempted to rally with three runs in the sixth and another three in the seventh. However, the Chargers countered with one in the sixth and four in the seventh to maintain their advantage.
Ancilla outhit Glen Oaks 16-7 for the game. Marin led the Viking offense with two doubles and a single, two runs, and one RBI. Cameron Humeston singled twice and scored twice. Drewyor had a hit, two RBI, a run, and a walk. Jayden Hamilton drew three walks and scored. Wardenburg also scored and Andrew Thorpe had a hit.
Four pitchers were used by Glen Oaks. Brady Mescher had the start and took the loss, going 4.2 innings with five strikeouts, nine hits, eight runs, six earned runs, and three walks.
Friday's result puts the Vikings at 2-5 in the MCCAA Western Conference and 5-21 overall. Glen Oaks has a doubleheader rematch Saturday at Ancilla.
