Glen Oaks baseball finishes sweep over Community Christian
Vikings claim Game 2 at home.
Glen Oaks baseball completed a home sweep Thursday over Community Christian, winning game two 10-5 in six innings. Unlike the first game victory, the Vikings had to erase an early deficit.
The Lions raced ahead with five runs in the top of the first inning. Glen Oaks minimized the damage by getting four back in the bottom half. The Vikings didn't go ahead until scoring five runs in the bottom of the third inning. GOCC added one more in the fourth.
Gavin Wickham got the win in relief, coming in to help halt the first inning damage. He tossed 4.2 innings total and struck out five, allowing four hits, one earned run, and four walks. Hunter Tinervia pitched the final inning clean with two strikeouts.
Offensively, Glen Oaks outhit Community Christian 9-4. Steven Drewyor had three hits, two RBI, and one run. Andrew Thorpe had three hits, including a double, adding a run and RBI. Brayden Clark and Gionni Fonseca both scored twice. Erick Marin had a double and two walks, two RBI, and one run. Peyton Simmons had two RBI, two walks, and one run. Daniel Vizthum stole two bases with one hit, one run, and one RBI.
The Vikings are 2-0 at home to start the season. Now 3-14 overall, Glen Oaks returns to action hosting Schoolcraft College in a doubleheader on Friday, March 15.
